10 Years of MobileThinking
[2019]

26/06/2024

We are celebrating our 10th anniversary ! 🎉 : the next chapter

Welcome to 2019!

For those joining us along the way, every month MobileThinking takes you on a journey back in time to relive the highlights of its exciting adventure.

This month, we drop anchor in 2019 as MobileThinking enters its 5th year. With new offers, opportunities to be seized, fulfilling collaborations and ever more ambitious projects, brace yourselves; it's going to be a bumpy ride! 😉

An ever-improving crew

The team is now made up of Jody, Jérôme, Carlos, Mattia, Kevin, Hassan and Vincent, who joins the adventure not as a trainee but as a collaborator!

This year we're also welcoming a new intern, Chloé! She'll be spending 4 months with the team, working on the Service Design & Interaction aspect as a User Interface/User Experience Designer on social networks. Everyone really enjoyed her time with us!

Photo Shoot 📸

To mark all these hard-won achievements, the MobileThinking team is organising a photo shoot to immortalise team spirit and celebrate collective success.

So everyone is getting out their best shirts and best smiles to charm the camera of our assigned photographer, Kevin.
A special mention goes to Bianca, who was naturally present at the shoot and totally stole the show from the members of the team - a real star!

Consulting, workshops and design sprints

Consulting

A new offer has arrived! After 5 years in business, MobileThinking is now launching a consulting service. The aim is to support customers in designing digital tools, optimising their digital development strategy and helping them with their digital transformation.

Workshops

As part of the DECLAM network, the team welcomed Genius Loci, for a workshop on the theme: Valuing diversity and cross-border identity. The storytelling workshop involved exercises in creating micro-stories which, when put together, formed a network of narratives. Another highly productive experience in terms of debates, discussions and results!

Design Sprints

The first Design Sprint of 2019 was carried out as part of a project with École Moser to help them design a new digital tool. It took place in collaboration with a team of professionals from Moser School, including teachers, administrative staff, members of the IT department and managers. There were many challenges, many of which were overcome thanks to the contributions of the team members and participants. It was a great week of co-design, rewarding and effective!

The second Design Sprint was carried out in partnership with Loyco and the bank Piguet Galland , with the aim of helping them to design one of their future products. The Design Sprint team was made up of CEOs, CIOs, senior consultants and more technical people. This mix of skills was extremely effective. Discussions were rich and decisions were taken quickly. On a more personal level, MobileThinking sensed from day one that the week was not only going to be rich in design and innovation, but also take place in an extraordinary atmosphere.

At the time, MobileThinking, Loyco and Piguet Galland had no idea of the significance of their encounter and the positive influence it would have on their future. To be continued 😉

Mountain Craft

This Design Sprint was a bit unusual... It took place in the mountains and... in slippers!

In partnership with Nicolas Croquet of Courroie de Transmission, MobileThinking was commissioned by Marie-Elodie Perga, a professor in the Faculty of Geosciences and the Environment at the University of Lausanne, to support a group of researchers from different backgrounds in the ideation and design of a prototype for... a video game!

The initial idea was to design a tool that would simulate the effects of global warming in the mountains, and more specifically on water, using a video game.

The aim was to use scientific data from different predictive models to bring together the various key players in the region around an interactive simulation and test different collaborative scenarios.

This week's workshop was particularly intense and highly constructive. Indeed, the major difficulty was to combine the two very complex worlds of science and video games. Despite this, the results were more than satisfactory!

And why wear slippers, you might ask? The workshop took place in a hotel in the village of Granges in Valais. The hotel offers a very peaceful setting, ideal for ideation, and has a golden rule: no shoes inside, hence the slippers 😉

The projects and events that marked 2019

The SFITS calendar

La Swiss Foundation For Innovation and Training in Surgery (SFITS), based in Geneva, offers around 400 courses a year for surgeons.

The tool developed allows participants to view, register and pay for online courses, automating the registration and payment process and validating attendance.

The back office, created using Laravel, retrieves courses from an XML API and enables administrators to add and manage a variety of content.

The client interface, developed in VueJS, offers a sophisticated user experience on desktop and mobile, including calendar management and the ability to pay by PayPal or credit card.

The tool has continued to evolve over the years. Special thanks to Nicolas for his unfailing confidence.

Centre du Genou Genève - Hôpital La Tour

Le Centre du Genou Genève, via Hôpital La Tour, commissioned MobileThinking to create a solution for evaluating patients using pre- and post-operative questionnaires over the long term. These questionnaires, designed by scientists, generate scores for each patient based on their answers, thus facilitating medical management.

Citizen Science Project Builder - PyBossa

Le Citizen Science Project Builder is an online platform that allows anyone, including researchers, students and members of the public, to create and manage citizen science projects. These projects involve collaboration between volunteers ("citizens") and scientists to produce scientific knowledge, ranging from classifying images of snakes to collecting water samples or taking photos of insects and plants.

MT-Event

A fully-featured ecosystem to manage and broadcast professional events

MT-Event is a management tool for organisers, but also a web and mobile application for participants. After a successful project with the Centre International de Conférences de Genève, the MobileThinking team became aware of the difficulties involved in organising events and wanted to look into the matter.

The result is a solution that enables organisers to centralise and manage all information relating to their events, including schedules, sessions, documents and communication with participants. The associated mobile application allows participants to easily access event details, receive notifications and personalise their experience.

Avenue H2020 Meetings

Luxembourg

In May, Carlos visited one of our partners in Luxembourg: Sales-Lentz, a key player in the public transport sector.

The consortium of 23 partners assessed recent progress, presented significant advances and planned for the year ahead. Carlos unveiled the prototype applications for transport operators, as well as the results on accessibility.
Autonomous Vehicles Luxembourg Sales-Lentz

Geneva

In october, the H2020 AVENUE project organised a three-day plenary meeting at the University of Geneva, bringing together 35 partners to discuss the development of autonomous vehicles.

Participants presented the results and challenges encountered, including advances in the Bestmile command and control platform, which is essential for integrating data into the mobile applications developed by MobileThinking. Emphasis was also placed on passenger needs and services to promote acceptance of autonomous vehicles.

MobileThinking presented its progress in services via a mobile application, receiving constructive feedback to improve the user experience. The discussions were productive and led to strategic decisions in preparation for the next stages. See you in May 2020 in Copenhagen!

Forums

Mobility Forum

Carlos and Mattia took part in the Mobility Forum organised by TPG and the newspaper Le Temps. As influential players in the field of mobility in Switzerland and Europe, they made an active contribution to discussions on the future challenges facing the sector.

Thanks to their expertise acquired through the AVENUE H2020 project and other strategic collaborations, they added value to the debates and discussions. The TPG and Bestmile partners also played a key role in the round table discussions, generating some fascinating exchanges.

The networking cocktail was the perfect opportunity to discuss the AVENUE H2020 project with other players in the sector, underlining the growing interest in mobility innovations.

Digital Economy Forum

Kevin attended the forum organised by the FER and the State of Geneva.

One of the day's key workshops, led by Jean-Henry Morin and Patrick Genoud on 'Approaches and methods for business transformation', particularly caught his attention. This subject is central to MobileThinking, given its long-standing commitment to Design Thinking and co-creation with multidisciplinary teams.

The day reinforced the team's belief that approaches such as Design Thinking are essential for responding to challenges by fostering creativity and adaptability. More than ever, MobileThinking, as a strategic partner, is ready to collaborate to find the best approach to meet the specific needs of each challenge.

MobileThinking enters Swiss universities 🏫

The practice of clean coding - University of Geneva

Our Dr in Business and Management, Mattia, is responsible for the 'Clean Code Practice' module for the CAS (Web Application Design and Technologies) at Unige.

His role is to contribute to a good understanding of user needs and to share his experience in subjects such as teamwork, non-technical skills and the importance of adaptability in a diverse environment.

What we can tell you is that this job is very important to him, and he's delighted to be able to share his thoughts on the subject with people who are passionate about it.

MobileThinking as a case study - University of Lugano

Invited by Professor Laurent Fresard, our national Mattia also travelled to the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland to present MobileThinking's financial growth to Master of Finance students at the University of Lugano.

He was able to explain how MobileThinking's team, infrastructure and services have evolved to meet the changing needs of the market, while remaining focused on a human and personalised approach.
